The Canada Council for the Arts distributes annual payments to Canadian authors through the Public Lending Right (PLR) Program as compensation for the free public access to their books in Canadian public libraries.


Eligible work includes original writing, translation, illustration, and photography contained in library books across a range of literary and scholarly genres.


The professional expertise of the PLR Commission serves to provide oversight and guidance to the criteria and operations of the PLR Program.


The PLR Registration period is open until
May 1st.


Registration period: 15 February to 1 May 2017 (postmark as proof)

If the deadline date falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the deadline moves to the next business day. Your completed application and all support material must be postmarked on or before the deadline date.

Registrations by e-mail are not accepted. New authors must fill out a registration form and mail it to the Public Lending Right Program along with the required support material.

Registrations received outside of the registration period will NOT be accepted and will be returned to the sender.

If you are registering for the first time, click here to obtain a Registration form.

The PLR Program communicates with authors once a year - every February. If you register this year, the next time you will hear from us will be in February 2018.

Registered Authors___________________________
The annual PLR cheques were mailed to registered authors who qualify on February 15th. The PLR Program does not offer direct deposit service. If you have registered with the PLR Program, you should receive your PLR package by the end of February. It includes a File update form, which we ask you to use to submit new titles and new formats or to notify us of any change of address. You do not need to re-register titles already in your PLR file.

If you have more than 2 titles or formats to register and require additional room, you may use the supplementary form below and attach it to your File Update form.
