Jacques Ouellet (Past Chair)
Jacques Ouellet (Tracadie-Sheila, NB) Founder of publishing house La Grande Marée ltée in 1993, he published four novels, one of which, La revanche du pékan, won him the Prix France-Acadie in Paris in 2001. He has also published some short stories and a tale for children. His poetry was featured in the new Acadian literary periodical Ancrage in its first issue in spring 2005. He studied health sciences from 1971 to 1974 at the Edmundston campus of the Université de Moncton, and public health from 1974 to 1976 at Ryerson in Toronto. He is a former member of the UNEQ and the ADELF in his capacity as an author, and of ANEL as a publisher. Since 2003, he has been a member of the Regroupement des Éditeurs Canadiens Français. He is also a member in good standing of the AAAPNB and was a founding member of Ancrage in 2005.
Jacques Ouellet is a self-taught photographer, painter and author. He is the owner of his publishing company with his wife Suzanne, and they have published more than 65 titles, most by Acadians from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. La Grande Marée ltée has received Canada Council funding under the program of book publishing assistance since April 2006. Mr. Ouellet has worked for the New Brunswick government since 1974 as a public health inspector. He was a municipal councilor for Tracadie-Sheila from 1983 to 1989.
